What is Bacterial Vaginosis?
Bacterial vaginosis (BV) occurs when there's an overgrowth of anaerobic bacteria in the vagina, disrupting the natural balance. It's one of the most common vaginal infections in women of reproductive age.
Symptoms
- • Thin, grey-white discharge
- • Fishy odor, especially after intercourse
- • Itching or burning (less common)
- • No significant pain typically
Treatment
BV is effectively treated with metronidazole oral medication or vaginal gels. It's important to complete the full course of antibiotics as prescribed.
