Cervical Infection
Mucopurulent discharge from the cervix, often caused by STIs
What is Cervical Infection?
Cervical infection occurs when bacteria such as chlamydia or gonorrhea infect the cervix. These are sexually transmitted infections that can lead to serious complications if untreated.
Symptoms
- • Mucopurulent (pus-like) discharge
- • Abnormal vaginal bleeding
- • Pelvic pain or discomfort
- • Pain during intercourse
- • Often asymptomatic in early stages
Treatment
Antibiotic treatment is highly effective. Chlamydia is treated with azithromycin or doxycycline. Gonorrhea requires ceftriaxone injection plus azithromycin. Both partners require treatment.
