Cystadenomas

Cystadenomas are benign tumors that develop from ovarian tissue. They can be filled with watery fluid (serous cystadenoma) or thick mucous material (mucinous cystadenoma). These can grow quite large and require surgical removal.

Symptoms

⚠️Often asymptomatic when small
⚠️Abdominal bloating and swelling
⚠️Pelvic pressure or fullness
⚠️Abdominal pain or discomfort
⚠️Feeling full quickly when eating
⚠️Urinary frequency
⚠️Can grow very large (10-30 cm)

Causes & Risk Factors

🔍Develop from ovarian surface epithelium
🔍Serous type: watery fluid
🔍Mucinous type: thick mucous
🔍Age factor (more common after menopause)
🔍Exact cause unknown
🔍Not related to menstrual cycle

Diagnosis Methods

Pelvic ultrasound
CT scan or MRI
CA-125 blood test
Appearance: smooth, thin-walled, fluid-filled
May have septations (internal divisions)
Doppler ultrasound to assess blood flow
