Balanitis
Balanitis is an inflammation of the glans (head) of the penis. It is a common condition that can affect men of all ages and is often caused by poor hygiene, infections, or skin conditions.
The condition can be acute (sudden onset) or chronic (recurring). Proper diagnosis is important to determine the underlying cause and appropriate treatment.
Common Symptoms
- ⚠ Redness and swelling of the glans
- ⚠ Pain or burning sensation
- ⚠ Itching or irritation
- ⚠ Discharge with unpleasant odor
- ⚠ Tightness or difficulty retracting foreskin
Posthitis
Posthitis is an inflammation of the foreskin (prepuce) of the penis. It often occurs together with balanitis, in which case it is referred to as balanoposthitis.
The condition is more common in men who have not been circumcised and can be caused by infections, irritants, or skin conditions. Treatment focuses on addressing the underlying cause.
Common Symptoms
- ⚠ Redness and swelling of foreskin
- ⚠ Pain or discomfort
- ⚠ Discharge under foreskin
- ⚠ Difficulty retracting foreskin
- ⚠ Pain during urination
Penile Warts
Penile warts (genital warts) are caused by the Human Papillomavirus (HPV). They appear as small flesh-colored or grayish bumps on the penis and can occur singly or in clusters.
While penile warts themselves are not cancerous, some strains of HPV are associated with increased risk of penile cancer. Early treatment and regular follow-up are important.
Treatment Options
- ✓ Cryotherapy (freezing warts)
- ✓ Topical prescription medications
- ✓ Surgical excision
- ✓ Laser treatment
- ✓ HPV vaccination (prevention)
Urethritis
Urethritis is an inflammation of the urethra (the tube that carries urine from the bladder). It is often caused by bacterial or viral infections, including sexually transmitted infections.
Common causes include chlamydia, gonorrhea, and other pathogens. Prompt treatment is important to prevent complications and transmission to sexual partners.
Common Symptoms
