Phimosis (Tight Foreskin) Treatment
Difficulty retracting the foreskin? Dr Gorakh Nath Mishra provides effective treatment for phimosis, from conservative management to surgical correction.
What is Phimosis?
Phimosis is a condition where the foreskin of the penis is too tight to be pulled back (retracted) over the glans (head of the penis). This can be present from birth (physiological) or develop later due to infection, scarring, or inflammation (pathological).
While mild phimosis in children may resolve naturally, severe cases in adults require treatment. Untreated phimosis can lead to hygiene problems, infections, pain during intercourse, and urinary difficulties.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is circumcision the only treatment for phimosis?
No. Mild cases can be treated with steroid creams and stretching exercises. Surgery is recommended for severe cases or when conservative treatment fails.
Does circumcision affect sexual function?
No, circumcision does not affect sexual function or sensation. In fact, it often improves sexual comfort and hygiene.
How long is the recovery after circumcision?
Most patients resume light activities within 1-2 days. Complete healing takes 2-3 weeks, and sexual activity can be resumed after 4-6 weeks.
Is the procedure painful?
The procedure is performed under anesthesia, so you won't feel pain during the surgery. Some discomfort during recovery is normal and can be managed with pain medication.
Will phimosis come back after treatment?
Circumcision provides a permanent solution. With preputioplasty or conservative treatment, there's a small chance of recurrence, but follow-up care helps prevent this.
