HPV Test

About HPV Test

The HPV (Human Papillomavirus) test detects the presence of high-risk HPV types that can cause cervical cancer. HPV is a common sexually transmitted infection, and certain strains are linked to cervical, vaginal, vulvar, and other cancers. The test is often performed alongside or instead of a Pap smear for women over 30. It can identify HPV infection before cell changes occur, allowing for earlier intervention. The sample collection is similar to a Pap smear - cells are collected from the cervix during a pelvic exam. The test can detect multiple HPV types simultaneously. A positive result doesn't mean you have cancer, but indicates the need for closer monitoring or additional testing. Most HPV infections clear on their own within two years. The test is particularly important for women with abnormal Pap smear results. HPV vaccination can prevent infection with the most dangerous strains.

How to Prepare

  1. 1Schedule when not menstruating
  2. 2Avoid intercourse for 48 hours before

  4. 4Avoid douching for 48 hours before the test
  5. 5Empty bladder before the exam

The Procedure
