What is Trichomoniasis?

Trichomoniasis is a common sexually transmitted infection caused by a parasite (Trichomonas vaginalis). It affects both men and women but is more common in women.

Symptoms

  • • Frothy, yellow-green discharge
  • • Strong, unpleasant odor
  • • Genital irritation and itching
  • • Pain during urination or intercourse
  • • Sometimes bleeding after intercourse

Treatment

Trichomoniasis is easily treated with a single dose of metronidazole. It's important that sexual partners are treated simultaneously to prevent reinfection.
